PC is a Bad Thing

Dr. Carson on Political Correctness: "PC is a Bad Thing"

  1. Now it's not my intention to offend anyone i have uh... discovered however in recent
  2. years it's very difficult to speak to a large group of people these days
  3. and not offend someone. Now people walk around their feelings on their
  4. shoulders waiting for you to say something Ahhhhh! Did you hear that? And
  5. they can't hear anything else you say. The PC police are out in force at all times.
  6. I remember once i was talking to a group about the difference between the human brain and
  7. a dogs brain. And a man got offended. He said you can talk
  8. about dogs like that. But uh... People just focus in on that completely
  9. missed the point of what you're saying. and um...
  10. we've reached a point where people are afraid to actually talk about
  11. what they want to say because somebody might be offended
  12. people afraid to say "Merry Christmas" at Christmas time. Doesn't matter whether
  13. the person you're talking to is Jewish or you know
  14. whether they're ANY religion That's a salutation of greeting, of goodwill.
  15. we've got to get over this sensitivity. you know and uh... it keeps people from saying
  16. what they really believe. you know i'm reminded of a very successful
  17. young businessmen and uh... he loved the buy his mother these
  18. exotic gifts for Mother's Day and he ran out of ideas
  19. and then he ran across these birds. These birds were cool you know they cost five thousand
  20. dollars a piece. they could dance. they could sing they could
  21. talk he was so excited he bought two of 'em sent them to his mother couldn't wait to call
  22. her up on mother's day mother mother What did you think of those birds?
  23. and she said "They was good!"  (<<應該是They were good!)
  24. he said "No no, no no, Mother! You didn't eat those
  25. birds. They cost five thousand dollars a piece They could dance. They could sing. They could
  26. talk." and she said well they should have said something.
  27. and you know that's where we end up too if we don't speak
  28. up for what we believe. and uh, you know
  29. What we need to do... What we NEED to do in this PC world is forget
  30. about unanimity of speech and unanimity of thought
  31. and we need to concentrate on being respectful of those people with whom we disagree.
  32. And that's when I believe we begin to make real progress.
  33. And one last thing about political correctness, which I think is a horrible thing by the way,
  34. I'm VERY very compassionate and I'm not ever out to offend anyone.
  35. But PC is dangerous. because you see this country, one of the founding
  36. principals was freedom of thought and freedom of expression
  37. and it muffles people. It puts a muzzel on them.
  38. And at the same time keeps people from discussing important issues
  39. while the fabric of their society is being changed.
  40. And we can not fall for that trick and what we need to do is start talking about things.
  41. Talking about things that are important Things that were important in the development
  42. of our nation.
